The Momentum Learning Series is a 14-week program designed to increase understanding and empathy around the topics of race and racism affecting Black America.
Embarking on this learning journey as a company is multi-purpose. First, as an organization we believe we have a duty to examine our country's past and current history of racism against the Black community to enable the shift in consciousness needed to create a more just and democratic society. Second, when we push ourselves to understand and empathize with one another, we produce better creative work. Creating powerful, inspirational work requires a deep understanding of your audience--and empathy is where deep understanding begins. Empathy is also the key to creating working relationships centered around strong collaboration and creative risk taking. In summary, we believe education is where true change starts, both in our world and in our work.
The program will take place over 14 weeks. During Week One you will be asked to watch or read one resource each day (averaging 10-15 minutes each), reflect on what you've seen or read, and be given an opportunity to go deeper with additional resources. At the end of each week there will be a link to provide anonymous feedback and insights on the material. Following Week One will be Week One: Discussion Week where we will offer opportunities to discuss that week’s topic as a community. Then we will move on to Week Two followed by Week Two: Discussion Week, etc. To keep everyone on track, each Monday, that week's module or discussion group will be posted in #general slack. There are seven weeks of material that will each be followed by a discussion week, bringing the program’s overall length to 14 weeks.
